The Bulletin contains information on latest news, research, past and upcoming events related to sugar cane technology. In this issue you will find mention of copyright infringement concerning the book Cane Sugar Engineering authored by Dr. Peter Rein. This matter is of vital importance and we should all have responsible behaviour concerning copyright matters as otherwise publishers might be reluctant to produce books and manuals in the future, which could be an important setback for the advancement of knowledge on sugar cane.
This issue contains information on an important breakthrough in research on sugar cane with the production of two sugarcane varieties with higher sugar content and biomass by Brazilian scientists from Embrapa Agroenergia through gene silencing. This technology is likely to attract more and more attention in future, the more so that it is considered to be non-transgenic.
The preparations for the XXXI ISSCT Congress in Hyderabad, India in February 2023 are underway. As mentioned in the December 2021 Issue of the Bulletin, the links to Intent to submit a Paper/Poster and Instructions to authors are as follows:

In 2022, the ISSCT will organize a series of webinars for each one of its five Commissions. The first ones to be held will be those of the Co-Products and Factory Commissions. The procedures for the holding of the webinars have been finalized and were communicated to all TPC and Office Bearers earlier this month.
The Mid-Term Meeting of the Executive Committee will be held in late February 2022. For the first time, the members of the Executive Committee, Technical Programme Committee and Congress Organising Committee will meet online owing to the pandemic which prevents the traditional in-person meeting.
We hope that you will find this issue of the Bulletin interesting and worthy of your time. We would like to encourage you to contribute to the February issue of the Bulletin. Your contributions should reach us by 25 January 2022.
